Summer is officially here; and with it brings the 65th opening day of Pine Tree Camp! Tomorrow morning, campers will be welcomed by the scenic views of North Pond, sunny skies, and an energized team of camp staff. From age old camp songs, to new friendships and memories, tradition will hold strong as we kick off a new season of camp.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of Pine Tree Camp. Excitement fills the air as camp’s doors are ready to be open once again. However, the buzz around camp ignited weeks ago, when staff began arriving to camp to prepare for the summer season. A team of over 35 counselors, program directors and unit leaders traveled from all over to join the Pine Tree Camp family for its 65th season.

From Scotland, England, Germany, Nova Scotia, and of course Maine, the group spent last week coming together as a team, and refreshing the skills needed to be an effective and supportive member of camp. The team took part in communication trainings and team building exercises. Program directors began preparing for the activities planned for each session. Celeste Chaloux, arts and crafts director, started the prep work needed for campers to make yarn nametags as their first craft project. Kim Bucciantini, counselor supervisor, freshened up on his sign language skills.

“I love having the ability to not have to say no to a camper, and to really try to make anything happen for them,” commented Kim. There is no doubt that excitement fills every single inch of camp, and is only heightened with tomorrow’s opening day.

Tomorrow we will welcome our first adult session. Many adult campers have been coming to camp since they were a child, and look forward to seeing their camp friends once again.

Sue Zittle, RN, commented, “When campers begin to arrive for the first time, their faces say it all. Their positive attitude is incredibly contagious and inspiring.”
